You Web-surf like a dude!

A new site offers a "guestimate" of your gender based on your browser history.

Nerve's Scanner alerted me to a Web site that takes a guess at your sex, based on your Internet browsing history. Of course, I immediately clicked over to the site and set its secret script running. It reviewed my browser history, applied the ratio of male-to-female users for each site visited and calculated a gender "guestimate." The result: "Likelihood of you being MALE is 99%." I polled a couple of female co-workers and they, too, were determined to be male (although by a much smaller percentage). Oops! I guess today we forgot to visit our usual stomping grounds: iVillage.com, QVC.com and BettyCrocker.com. Instead, we've been reading super-serious man stuff like the New York Times, Reuters and the BBC.

It's important to note that the site emphasizes that it is "purely for fun" -- and fun it is. (In fact, maybe visiting the site will raise the likelihood of my being female to 2 percent!) I suggest that you all check out the gender profile of your recent Web visits and then report back.
