President-elect Barack Obama thinks Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich should resign, Obama advisors said Wednesday. Robert Gibbs, the future White House press secretary, said, "The President-elect agrees with Lt. Gov. Quinn and many others that under the current circumstances it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois."

Obama also wants a new system for choosing the person who will fill his old Senate seat. The president-elect believes the Illinois general assembly should step in to "consider the issue and put in place a process to select a new senator that will have the trust and confidence of the people of Illinois," Gibbs said.
