The Senate's newest member gets involved in the Sotomayor confirmation hearings

Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., the Senate’s newest member, has been on the job for only five days. But because he got himself a spot on the Judiciary Committee, he gets to take part in the Sotomayor confirmation hearings — and that means some very valuable camera time for a freshman senator.

Below, a clip from Franken’s opening statement, his first star turn in a role quite different from the ones he’s used to playing.
