Today we're excited to announce a new Food section on Salon helmed by Francis Lam, a terrific cook and food writer. We've experimented with a variety of food and drink coverage on Salon through the years, and it's always been clear that our readers have an enormous appetite for it -- not just the burgeoning social movement that's made grocery shopping a political act, but the unpretentious appreciation for eating. With Francis, we feel like we've found a perfect impresario for our coverage. A trained chef, he's also a storyteller who envisions the section being "food coverage for curious people, for people who care about people, for people who are passionate about finding new ways to look at the world." Francis, who comes to us from the dearly departed Gourmet magazine, will be writing regularly here, guiding our weekly Salon Kitchen Challenge, and capping the week with uniquely designed recipe every Saturday. He'll be assisted by editor Thomas Rogers, who will be writing and compiling the most interesting news, trends and topical posts for the section (like today's, on surprise pairings for your Thanksgiving dinner). This is the first in a series of new rollouts set for the coming weeks. We hope you'll stay tuned, and tell us what you think.
