State Department suggests the arrests may be linked to a binational anti-terror campaign

The State Department says 12 Americans have been taken into custody by Yemini authorities.

Department spokesman P.J. Crowley suggested that the arrests may be linked to a joint U.S.-Yemeni anti-terror campaign.

Crowley would provide no details about the case except to say the U.S. is aware of the arrests and is seeking more information about the individuals.

When asked whether the 12 had been picked up at the request of the U.S., Crowley replied that the U.S. enjoys good cooperation from the Yemeni government in combating the threat posed by al-Qaida.
