Authorities say they believe a driver intentionally crashed head-on into a school bus, injuring five people in Southern California.

The Riverside County sheriff's office says a 44-year-old man drove the wrong way on a freeway offramp Wednesday morning and plowed into a bus carrying seven high-school students. Authorities say three students and both drivers were treated for minor injuries.

Sgt. Joe Borja says the man was seen earlier trying to climb a fence on an overpass of State Route 60 freeway in Glen Avon. He says that when that failed, the man got into his vehicle and crashed into the bus.

The sergeant says he doesn't know whether the man was attempting suicide but he could face criminal charges.

His name wasn't released.
