I keep ending up writing about caravans for some reason, I had no idea I was so interested in them but here I am, inspired yet again by vintage Airstreams and being "driven" to another really cool job for Levi's!
The job was to design and build a teardrop trailer of sorts for inside the Levi's Union Square store down inside a tight little area called "the pit" which you look down on. It is kind of like a lion's den at the zoo.
We had to build it in parts so we could assemble it inside the pit, it was the only way to get it in. The original drawings had it half plywood and half metal. It evolved quite a few times...

There are quite a few people out there building custom teardrop trailers. How fun, I can't wait to do it again, but this time for personal use! These are absolutely amazing, ours had to be very specific in size so we did it from scratch.
This is the tiny space we were building the piece in, TIGHT QUARTERS.
We brought it in as 2 halves and assembled in a few hours.

The inside is as cool as the outside, it just MAKES you want to sleep in it.
We made the curtains out of vintage bandanas.

Accents like vents, door handle and trim truly "drove" the realism.

It's like a hippie UFO, everyone needs one.
The side with the hitch and silver propane tank doesn't even really show but is great knowing that it turned out perfect anyway.

Special thanks to Kody Lucero, Kim Harris and Ian Mullen for being such a great team!
This was about the best photo I could get of it because the space is so enclosed. For a better look go to the store! For more inspiration on caravans read this previous article.
