CHICAGO (AP) — Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman at a Chicago hospital.
University of Illinois at Chicago spokesman Mark Rosati says UIC police pulled the 47-year-old man over for a routine traffic stop at 6:30 a.m. Friday. Rosati says the man, who has worked at the hospital for 15 years, fled the car and was arrested a few blocks away.
The shooting happened late Thursday on the second floor of the hospital's parking lot. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office says the woman who was shot later died.
Rosati says police have recovered a weapon but don't know if it was used in the hospital shooting.
The hospital was locked down for hours while police searched for the gunman but resumed normal operations around 5 a.m.
