Peruvian Leader Backs Bolivia's Demand For Port

LIMA, Peru (AP) — Peru's president has reiterated his support for neighboring Bolivia in its long-standing request that Chile provide the landlocked country with a corridor of land to access the Pacific coast.

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala discussed the issue during a meeting with Bolivian President Evo Morales in the Andean city of Cusco.

Humala told reporters after Thursday's meeting that Bolivia has a "legitimate demand" for access to the ocean.

Chile's victory in a war between 1879 and 1884 gave it territories once held by Peru and Bolivia, and the three neighbors have since feuded over territory.

Morales said in March that he plans to take Bolivia's demand before international courts to resolve the dispute.
