SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego police say bones found in the ocean — including a skull with a bullet hole — belong to a man suspected of robbing and killing a former Afghan government official-turned-cab driver.
Lt. Kevin Rooney says DNA tests confirm that bones found off La Jolla (HOY-uh) last month are those of 28-year-old Ismael Lopez.
Authorities are trying to determine whether he killed himself.
Lopez is suspected of shooting 68-year-old Mir Najibullah Sadat Sahou on Sept. 28. Sahou's taxi was later found abandoned near the ocean.
Sahou was governor of Afghan's central bank before being granted political asylum in the United States in the 1990s. Police say Lopez apparently didn't know Sahou.
