VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) — Mexican officials say soldiers have discovered 13 bodies in a truck left just outside the eastern state of Veracruz, along with a message that they were killed in a war between rival cartels.
State authorities say the bodies were found Sunday a few hundred yards (meters) from the line dividing the states of Tamaulipas and Veracruz.
A statement from the attorney general's office in Tamaulipas said a pair of banners alluding to a drug-cartel rivalry were found in the truck. The area has been the scene of bloody battles between the Gulf and Zetas cartels.
The attorney general's office in Veracruz said Friday that it had found 10 bodies in an area along the border with Tamaulipas after receiving a tip.
