TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Washington State Patrol trooper snuck up on a suicidal young woman sitting on the railing of a highway overpass in Tacoma and pulled her to safety Thursday.
Trooper Guy Gill says while the officer was pulling her back over the barrier, she asked him to let her go because she wanted to jump.
The 24-year-old Tacoma woman had self-inflicted cuts on her wrists and stomach. Gill says medical personnel took her to a hospital for treatment.
Troopers had swarmed an area near the Tacoma Dome after their dispatch office got a phone call about a suicidal woman on an overpass.
Gill says, "This young woman was going through some very hard times and had every intention of carrying out her plan."
