NEW YORK (AP) — Police say officers shot and killed a man who had apparently armed himself to defend his brother during a holdup of a New York City home where drugs were later recovered.
The shooting occurred Thursday night in the East New York section of Brooklyn.
Police spokesman Paul Browne says the victim was armed with a revolver. Browne says the man was coming to the aid of his brother, who was being held up by two armed bandits.
Browne says the man ignored repeated orders by police to "freeze" before an officer shot him once in the chest. The bandits fled on foot.
Police say investigators found 11 bags of marijuana and a scale in a closet of the basement. The surviving brother is being questioned.
