The Dow Jones industrial average had its worst day this year. Greece once again cast a shadow over financial markets as that country slogs through negotiations over a new package of bailout loans.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 97.33 points, or 0.8 percent, to close at 12,780.95.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 7.27 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 1,343.23.
The Nasdaq composite index fell 16 points, or 0.6 percent, to close at 2,915.83.
For the week:
The Dow is down 20.28 points, or 0.2 percent.
The S&P is up 0.59 points, or 0.04 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 11.95 points, or 0.4 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 563.39 points, or 4.6 percent.
The S&P is up 85.63 points, or 6.8 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 310.68 points, or 11.9 percent.
