HIGHS ALL AROUND: The Dow Jones industrial average, the Standard & Poor's 500 and the Nasdaq composite all notched their highest closes for the year so far, lifted by slivers of good news about the U.S. jobs market and housing.
NEARING 13,000: The Dow rose 123.13 points to close at 12,904.08, its highest close since May 19, 2008 — four months before the financial crisis imploded.
IN A JAM: Shares of J.M. Smucker fell 8 percent. The company, maker of Jif peanut butter, Folgers coffee and Crisco shortening, said it lost sales volume after raising prices.
