WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) — A Texas woman who was tortured while being held captive for nearly two weeks says her life is getting back to normal.
Lois Pearson says she's relieved that her former neighbor will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Jeffrey Allan Maxwell was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison. A day earlier he was convicted of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. The 59-year-old will be eligible for parole in 60 years.
Pearson says the only reason she's alive is because God spared her life. The deeply religious woman says she's trying to forgive Maxwell.
He kidnapped her last March, and then drove 100 miles away to his Corsicana home, 50 miles south of Dallas. He sexually assaulted her on a deer-skinning device before she was rescued.
