COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A gunman accused of holding people hostage at a medical building in Colorado Springs has died after being shot by a police officer.

Police say 28-year-old Dominic Oliver of Colorado Springs showed up at the Urological Associates office at about noon Tuesday with a gun. A doctor at the practice, Jeff Ferguson, told The Gazette (http://bit.ly/wul0nG) the man was angry at an office employee and took her and others hostage.

Police say the man released two people from the office, but three other people were believed to be hiding from him.

Negotiators tried to get the man to surrender peacefully before officers moved in to try to rescue the hostages. Police say an officer shot the suspect during an "armed confrontation."

Police confirm Oliver died after being taken to a hospital.
