MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A Philippine military official says troops have captured an Abu Sayyaf gunman linked to the kidnappings of three Americans and another militant implicated in the 2007 beheadings of Filipino marines.

Army Col. Ricardo Visaya says troops on Wednesday separately captured Serham Akalon in southern Basilan province's Sumisip town and Anni Idris in the provincial capital of Isabela city.

Visaya said Thursday that Akalon has been implicated in the 2007 beheadings of 10 marines during a clash in Basilan's remote Al-Barka town. He was captured but escaped from jail in 2009.

Visaya says Idris allegedly played a role in the 2001 kidnappings of three Americans and 17 Chinese Filipino tourists, who were held hostage in Basilan. Two of the Americans were killed.
