In group lottery wins splitting the spoils tough

WASHINGTON (AP) — When groups of people pool resources hoping to increase their odds of winning a huge lottery jackpot, their future often involves lawsuits and not just luxury if they win.

Numerous group winners have been sued by people claiming to have pitched in for the ticket, leading to messy fights for the money.

On Monday, rumors swirled about winners of the record-breaking $656 million Mega Millions drawing Friday night.

A newspaper reported one potential winner in Maryland. A McDonald's employee claims to hold the winning ticket as an individual, but also bought tickets for a restaurant group. If the woman does have a winning ticket, it could trigger just the latest group lottery lawsuit.
