Right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh claimed on the air on Monday that liberalism was to blame for the recent school shooting in Colorado — and, indeed, school shootings "practically" everywhere.
“The media doesn’t want you to know this," Limbaugh told his listeners, "but practically every one of these young kids shooting up schools is inspired by something to do with leftism, socialism, what have you. Every one of them is.”
Limbaugh went on to argue that the media was biased against conservatives in its coverage of school shootings, emphasizing a shooter's political convictions only when they happen to be on the right — and otherwise opting instead for what Limbaugh called "the mental health explanation."
"When [the media] can’t tie [shooters] to the Tea Party, you don’t hear about it anymore," Limbaugh said. “You hear the mental health explanation.”
Limbaugh was dismissive of "the mental health explanation," opting instead to blame liberalism itself for school shootings.“Well, what mental health problem?" Limbaugh asked rhetorically. "Liberalism, guaran-damn-teed, is what’s causing this.”
