While he still has his supporters, despite his instrumental role in selling the American people on invading Iraq, retired four-star general and former Secretary of State Colin Powell isn't most people's idea of a tech savant.

Yet the longtime Republican turned Obama-endorser has a talent for upending expectations, which he proved once again on Thursday by posting on Facebook a decades-old picture of himself taking a picture of himself. That's right — way, way back in the 1950s, Colin Powell was taking selfies.

And while it's unlikely that Colin's selfie contribution to "Throwback Thursday" will unseat the reining selfie champion, Ellen Degeneres' star-studded Oscar night group selfie, the chances are good that Powell's foray into the world of social media memes will be the most celebrated since Texts From Hillary.
