Those who were kids in the '90s and 2000s will share restrained excitement (and some skepticism) while watching the first trailer for "The Giver," the highly anticipated film adaptation from Lois Lowry's 1993 dystopian bestseller.
After nearly 20 years of false starts and rumors, "The Giver" is finally coming to the big screen. The trailer premiered on the "Today" show, featuring newcomer Brenton Thwaites as Jonah, a boy who lives a sheltered life in an idyllic society until he becomes the apprentice of Jeff Bridges, who plays the Giver.
Thwaites and Bridges are joined by a star-studded cast of Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgård, Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift.
The trailer will appear in theaters March 20, and the film hits theaters Aug. 15.
