U.S. stocks closed mixed on Monday as the price of oil slipped and more disappointing news on the global economy emerged.
Investment bank Goldman Sachs lowered its forecast for oil prices because of ample supply and weaker demand, and business confidence in Germany declined for a sixth straight month
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 12.53 points, or 0.1 percent, to 16,817.94.
The S&P 500 lost 2.95 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,961.63.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 2.22 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 4,485.93.
For the year:
The Dow is up 241.28 points, or 1.5 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 113.27 points, or 6.1 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 309.34 points, or 7.4 percent.
