Just before Valentine's Day, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg sat down with MSNBC's Irin Carmon for a rare and wide-ranging interview on her time on the bench, SCOTUS decisions she most disagrees with, the future of the court and her contributions to society. Oh, and she also got to talking once more about what really happened when she nodded off at the State of the Union last month.
Following reports that Ginsburg admitted she "wasn't 100 percent sober" for the president's remarks, the 81-year-old justice and Internet meme inspiration clarified that she actually might just be a lightweight. “What I meant was that I had a glass of wine with dinner,” Ginsburg explained. “And that on top of having stayed up all night writing something.”
“I thought to myself,” she added, “‘Don’t stay up all night,’ but then my pen was hot … and the dinner was so good, and it needed to be complemented.”
