As expected, “Citizenfour,” Laura Poitras' hotly-discussed film about NSA leaker Edward Snowden, took home the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars tonight. Poitras, joined on stage by her colleague Glenn Greenwald, gave a short but impassioned oration, saying “the disclosures of Edward Snowden don’t only expose a threat to our privacy but to our democracy itself. When the decisions that rule us are taken in secret we lose the power to control and govern ourselves.”

She also thanked Snowden for his courage, along with Greenwald and "the many other journalists who are taking risks to expose the truth.” Neil Patrick Harris, meanwhile, took a more low-brow tack, joking that Snowden could not be here tonight for some "treason." Classy.
