Jon Stewart, like most Americans, didn't bat an eyelash yesterday when Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) announced his candidacy in the 2016 race. However, it did come as a shock to most when the senator was introduced as the "next United States of America" by J.C. Watts (R-OK). Not the President of the United States of America -- just, you know, the whole thing.
On "The Daily Show" Tuesday night, Stewart offered a play-by-play commentary for the event in Louisville, starting in with Watts' terrific gaffe: "Now, I knew that Rand Paul had some unconventional ideas," Stewart joked. "But electing him as the next United States of America is, I think ..." he trailed off.
In keeping with Paul's dramatically sluggish build-up to the event, nearly an hour passed before Rand graced the stage to announce -- surprise! -- that he'd be running. “At this point, Hillary Clinton was like ‘Just announce, already, please,” Stewart said.
