GOP woos veterans, but Trump has rubbed some vets wrong

RENO, Nevada (AP) — Republicans are going big on the veterans' vote in November.

The Republican National Committee has launched what it touts as an unprecedented effort to get out the veterans' vote. About 6.5 million veterans didn't vote in the 2012 presidential election, and vets are a traditionally Republican-leaning group.

This time, though, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has rubbed some vets the wrong way. Trump mocked Sen. John McCain for being captured during the Vietnam War and feuded with the parents of a Pakistani-American killed in combat in Iraq.

Republicans say they aren't worried. Veterans, they say, have thick skin, appreciate Trump's blunt manner and will back him.
