Is there a magic prescription for happiness? For author, doctor and pioneer of transformation Deepak Chopra, the answer rests within yourself.
Speaking with Salon about his new book, the New York Times Bestseller, “You Are the Universe: Discovering Your Cosmic Self and Why It Matters,” Chopra talked about being a “student of consciousness” and the behaviors that can make everyone’s life better and happier.
The first key to accessing happiness, according to Chopra, is getting to know yourself from within. “Be a silent witness of your own behavior, without being a judge of it,” he recommended.
“I am a serious practitioner of yoga, self-reflection, mindfulness, breath awareness, awareness of mental space,” Chopra said. Chopra said he is also constantly aware of his relationships with others and his relationship with nature and the cosmos.
Before you watch Chopra’s recommended steps to achieving happiness in the video above, you should ask yourself if you see the world as a “problem” or an “opportunity.” After all, according to Chopra, it’s all about perception.
“The way we perceive the world is 50 percent of our daily happiness,” he said.
Chopra, who has taught Oprah how to meditate, says he is a big believer in yoga and meditation and spends several hours daily practicing each. “Sleep, meditation, stress management, exercise, yoga and breathing techniques, nutrition and healthy emotions are the most important thing,” he said.
At the end of the day, it’s all pretty simple, according to Chopra. “Have a good attitude to life,” he said.
