In honor of the fifth season of "Orange is the New Black," which premieres on Friday, the cast of "Sesame Street" has paid tribute to the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary, in a spoof of the award-winning Netflix series titled "Orange is the New Snack."
"OINTS" moves things from Litchfield Penitentiary to the much more G-rated Litchfield Academy, and features spoofs on your favorite characters including Googly Eyes, Mr. Mustache, and of course the star of the show, newbie Piper Snackman.
Crowd favorites Red and Morello get nods as well, as the fiery "snack time moderator" who doles out home made cookies, and the air-headed fellow classmate who can turn anything into her boyfriend Christopher.
Our story begins as Piper arrives as the newest student of Litchfield, who rocks the boat when she tries to switch up snack time by shunning Red's cookies. Instead she offers her classmates oranges, and is threatened with time in the 'shoe' for doing so.
This is, of course, a nod to season one's famous showdown between Red and Piper over whether or not Red's cooking is edible.
However, this is "Sesame Street", not the untamed waters of Netflix, so the debacle is settled much quicker, and with a few more life lessons. Red tastes an orange and declares it the newest snack time snack. The shoe is not in fact the torturous "shue" of "OITNB", but instead an oversized "shoe" which Piper Snackman is made to sit inside.
If you're thinking that "OITNB" is a little too adult for a show like Sesame Street, you may be surprised to hear that "Orange is the New Snack" isn't the first of its kind. The show has also kid-sized a lot of adult-geared shows like Game of Thrones, Mad Men, True Blood, and Boardwalk Empire.
