Tomi Lahren, the newly minted Fox News provocateur, dressed as a troll for Halloween this year. Rocking a "Make America Great Again" one piece, a fanny pack and flag like wings, the right-wing pundit posted a photo of her garb onto Instagram with the caption: "Oh LA get ready to find your safe spaces! What am I? Well if you're a conservative, I'm American AF. If you're a lib, I'm 'offensive.' Let's go."
Lahren’s post of her American flag costume attracted over 106,000 likes and thousands of comments by Monday morning. Most of the commenters derided and scorned her costume choice, calling it hypocritical. She has consistently criticized NFL athletes for kneeling during the national anthem, a demonstration that protests police brutality in America. Lahren insists their act of dissent disrespects the flag, but most on Twitter suggested she was the one in violation of a portion of the U.S. code.
According to U.S. code, "No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform." This clause is filed under Title 4, Chapter 1, section 8 "Respect for flag" of the code. Many Twitter users cited this section in their attacks against Lahren.
Lahren's outrage over the NFL protests seems to be manufactured, as she has repeatedly expressed indignation over the demonstrations. During a recent appearance on "Fox & Friends," she said, “I would like to ask these players ‘What exactly are you kneeling for and why have you chosen the flag and the anthem to do it?’ […] “I would like to ask those same players, ‘What would it take to get you to stand and respect the anthem?’”
Twitter hit back at Lahren's blatant hypocrisy, with some even showing their own Halloween costumes this year.
I recall Tomi Lahren complaining about NFLers “disrespecting the flag” more than a few times. And yet: pic.twitter.com/CdK4lvRu67

I've never been less curious about what someone keeps in a fannypack than when I saw Tomi Lahren's sartorial atrocity yesterday.
