Tony Schwartz, the ghost author of President Donald Trump’s book “The Art of the Deal,” told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota that much worse days are ahead for the president.
In particular, Schwartz said that Wednesday’s bombshell New York Times editorial written by an anonymous White House official shows that many people surrounding the president know they’re on a sinking ship — and that the president has precious few people in his own White House whom he can trust.
“I think what is happening — and you can see it in his tweets, you can see it in the language that he’s using — is that he’s more and more isolated,” he said. “He is at the point — and I think he would be right at this point — to believe that there’s almost no one he can trust . . . and he’s in big trouble.”
Schwartz said that things will not improve for the president in the coming months either, as special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe comes barreling toward him.
“Bob Mueller probably has 40 years worth of crimes that he is going to unfold . . . some time in the next 60 to 120 days that will change this, from a legal perspective, in a dramatic way,” he said.
