This week in Salon we're introducing our questions of the day — inviting you to weigh in with the Salon community on a thought-provoking topic.

Author and self-proclaimed former "toxic bachelor" Rick Martin was never a touchy feely guy — until a puppy entered his life and changed him "overnight." Now he says that his dog is the thing that made him more human.

Pets have been proven to improve both physical and mental health — although anyone who's had them knows they can also be expensive, couch-pooping tyrants. Did your dog/cat/snake change your life, maybe even save  it? Or is your pet just a lovable jerk? Talk about the animal in your life with the Salon community in the comments below.
