One of the biggest political bombshells this week has been the revelation that special counsel Robert Mueller sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr objecting to his 4-page summary of the Russia investigation. After the full text of the letter was read on-air Wednesday, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin described Mueller’s letter to Barr as “scathing,” adding that “in plain English,” the special counsel was calling out Barr for “deliberately distorted his conclusions for the political gain of the president.:
“That is a scathing, outraged letter, accusing the attorney general of completely distorting and lying to the public about what Mueller spent two years on,” Toobin told his CNN colleagues. “That is not a polite letter among old friends; that is an accusation of political interference in Mueller’s work. That is not a routine letter in any sense of the word.”
Toobin made his comments as Barr was getting ready to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“Let’s be clear about what Mueller is saying: that the fix was in,” Toobin continued. “And he is saying that Barr deliberately distorted his conclusions for the political gain of the president. That’s what that letter says in plain English.”
