Meghan McCain has been a frequent critic of President Donald Trump — not unlike her father, the late Sen. John McCain of Arizona — but the Republican activist sounded quite Trumpian when, in a June 2 tweet, she blamed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for the civil unrest in NYC. But Kristen Bartlett, a writer for "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee," responded that she was exaggerating.

McCain tweeted, "My neighborhood in Manhattan is eviscerated and looks like a war zone. De Blasio and Cuomo are an utter disgrace. This is not America. Our leaders have abandoned us and continue to let great American cities burn to the ground and be destroyed. I never could have fathomed this."

Bartlett, one of McCain's neighbors, responded, "Meghan, we live in the same building, and I just walked outside. It's fine." And Twitter users have been applauding that response.

@LaBeautyologist wrote, "That is so funny," and @ClarkHampton4 posted, "NYC has been through worse…the Bronx burned for a whole summer once.  If she can't handle being a New Yorker then she should go live in Celebration, FL."

@Rod11 posted, "The looting in context. What? $50 Million in damages? Add that to the $500 BILLION bailout $500,000,000,000." And similarly, @cmcubfan wrote, "You want to talk about 'looting?' Over the past 30 years the top 1% gained $21 trillion in wealth while the bottom 50% lost $900 billion in wealth. That is the only looting that I care about. And this is @MeghanMcCain hot take from her penthouse?!"

@IsThisThingOn31 posted, "To be fair, Meghan McCain didn't actually walk outside to make that assessment. She just read about it in this blog called The Federalist."

One of the tweets employed the "Karen" meme that has become popular among younger Millennials and members of Generation Z: @Raffine9 posted, "I think McCain is just Karening a bit. She's been let down by the supervisors."

@AtPolitiCat wrote, "Meg's True Colors. And I had such hopes for her."
