This is my world: An Indian blogger points me to a San Jose Mercury News article reporting how Silicon Valley residents, inspired (or driven mad with envy) by a Hindustan Times article boasting about Bangalore's (or should I say Bengaluru's?) state-of-the-art municipal wireless network, are reinvigorating their own efforts to push ahead with a regional wireless broadband network.
That's right, Silicon Valley is trying to keep up with the Bengaluru Joneses. It's all about the WiMax, a kind of industrial strength WiFi that would enable skipping those DSL and cable landline links from your home to the Net, and cutting straight to big bandwidth wireless networking, anywhere, any time.
To hear about such a thing is to crave it, deep in your YouTube-addicted soul. So no wonder Brian Moura, the co-chair of Wireless Silicon Valley, is poking his fellow Silicon Valley wireless enthusiasts with the Bangalore stick. But I was amused to learn, from the Hindustan Times, that Bengaluru considers itself likely to be only the second city to go muni-WiMax. First to the mark? Taipei, Taiwan.
