Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey's 11th congressional district joins SalonTV's Dean Obeidallah to assess the progress House freshmen have made in the first 100 days of her term. "We're seeing Congress stand up," Sherrill told SalonTV's Dean Obeidallah.
The former Navy helicopter pilot and former federal prosecutor weighed in on coming from a swing district where there's less of an opportunity to be a firebrand progressive.
"You just have to be incredibly thoughtful about where the issues are that you can build bridges and get passed. It's not just about the fact that I'm in a swing district, but about the fact that we are now operating in a divided government. It's not enough for me to think, oh, if we win in 2020 and get the Senate, we can pass legislation," Sherrill said.
The congresswoman also weighed in on Speaker Pelosi's leadership, Trump's reaction to Rep. Ilhan Omar, passing the Violence Against Women Act and how she's driving support and services for female veterans.
