George Wayne has spent 22 years writing about pop culture icons in his Q&As for Vanity Fair. What are his most memorable interviews?
In his new book, "Anyone Who's Anyone: The Astonishing Celebrity Interviews 1987-2017," Wayne shares incredible stories about the world of luminaries and those usually untouchable and unreachable, except by him. The book assembles 30 years of iconic interviews with Carrie Fisher, Ivanka Trump, Barry White, Anna Wintour and countless others.
Throughout an illustrious career of interviewing the most famous celebrities of our time, Wayne, known as G.W., has truly perfected the art of the question and answer. Working as a journalist in New York City, he was able to rub elbows with some of the city's most esteemed socialites including Donald Trump's former wife, Ivana Trump. He shared some of those memories with Salon's Alli Joseph on "Salon Talks," including the following story.
After being threatened with a lawsuit for putting her on a worst dressed list; Wayne said he got the chance to meet and interview Ivana, which blossomed into a fast friendship. Ivana remains "one of the most amazing people in my life," Wayne said, which makes watching the chaos and disorder of the Trump White House even more difficult for him. "I've known the Trumps for a long-time and it's sort of like, it's really sad to see," he said.
