For over 20 years, April Ryan has been reporting from the White House. She's covered Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and now Donald Trump, but she told SalonTV, she has never faced serious threats and attacks as a journalist, until now. On "Salon Talks" Ryan told Salon's D. Watkins why it's her responsibility to expose the truth through her reporting, no matter how much pushback she gets from the Trump administration. "I'm standing on what the founding fathers put in the Constitution," Ryan said. "They never knew that there was going to be a black woman who was a descendant of slaves, who'd be in that briefing room." It's this point that gives Ryan the determination to continue her job. With her experience covering multiple presidents, Ryan emphasized the changing relationship between the press and the White House. "There used to be a friendly adversarial relationship with the White House. Now, it's adversarial," Ryan said. Her new book "Under Fire: Reporting from the Front Lines of the Trump White House," gives a front row seat to the White House briefing room under the Trump administration.
