Wendell Pierce, the Broadway actor and "The Wire" star, discusses the American dream, Black Americans and bringing Willy Loman to life on stage in "Death of a Salesman" with Salon's D. Watkins. "It's the greatest challenge in my career," Pierce said. "Seventy years from now, people will still be doing this play. You leap out a chance like that." Pierce explained the significance of having the Lomans be African-American in this revival of Arthur Miller's classic. "All the change that has happened has come from our dogged persistence and determination. Everything," Pierce said. "That's a cultural thing. Culture is where people and life itself intersect. And for Black folks making a way out of no way."
