Senator Doug Jones, Democrat from Alabama, opens up about his upcoming 2020 Senate campaign and how he plans to remain an independent voice for Alabama voters.
"I get criticized on the right, I get criticized on the left, but the one thing we're doing is we're not trying to make political decisions," Senator Jones told Salon's executive editor Andrew O'Hehir on "Salon Talks."
"I'm trying to look at how this is gonna affect my state and the country. And I think if we educate people appropriately, that they will see that there's a lot of things that this administration is doing that is not helpful to the people of Alabama. There's a bigger issue sometimes with the president, but you also need somebody that's got your back."
To hear Jones discuss his book
"Bending Toward Justice: The Birmingham Church Bombing that Changed the Course of Civil Rights." which explores his role in prosecuting two of the four former KKK members that carried out the bombing, watch the senator's
