Salon's Manny Howard sits down with Noreen Springstead, executive director of WhyHunger, to discuss solutions to America's hunger epidemic during a special series of conversations on food affordability hosted by Food Tank, Salon, and New York University's Steinhardt School.
"What happened along the continuum of how we solve hunger in America, is that we created an entrenched feeding system that food charity is the answer to hunger, when it's not. Twelve percent of the population has been hungry since the birth of food banks in 1967," Springstead said.
