Soul veteran Lee Fields has been in the music industry for 50 years now, but he's making more music than he ever has before. His songs have been sampled by Travis Scott and J. Cole and he's even performing at large scale music festivals like Firefly and Electric Forest. Fields joined "Salon Stage" to play songs from his latest album "It Rains Love" and to share some of the lessons he's learned over the past 50 years.
Fields told Salon that one of the most important lessons was, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." He said, "I treated everybody that I came into contact with as if I would need them again one day. That's part of what has sustained me through the years."
Fields started his career at the age of 17 years old releasing his first album as a true old-school R&B powerhouse, eventually being a part of Kool and the Gang and even giving Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley their first breaks.
But if there's one theme that is prevalent in most of Fields' music, it's positivity. He explained, "I sing my songs out of love and hope that it will spark a trend where people realize that love is the answer."
