Netflix’s “Painkiller” puts a face on the “greedy evil” at the root of opioid crisis
Director Pete Berg talks with Salon about the scripted Netflix limited series "Painkiller" and the real-life stories behind the opioid crisis. Berg explains the basis of the series and how pharmaceutical companies were able to market oxycodone to consumers, allowing addiction to become a multi-billion dollar industry. "Painkiller" stars Matthew Broderick, Taylor Kitsch and Uzo Aduba. "It's true that some of the characters have been changed, but 98% of this is real," Berg said. "The death and the pain are real."
