Salon's Ashlie D. Stevens reports from Louisville's Russell neighborhood, where David "Yaya" McAtee was fatally shot by police enforcing a city-wide 9 p.m. curfew on June 1. McAtee was known locally for selling plates of barbecue out of the parking lot of Dino's Food Mart in this historically Black part of the city. Police killed "a good man to the neighborhood," said Eric, a Russell resident in his 50s. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding McAtee's death is ongoing.
