Teens reveal the damage caused by social media in new docuseries | “Social Studies” | Salon Talks

Lauren Greenfield, the Emmy Award–winning filmmaker and photographer, spent one year observing teens and their social media use. She had full access to their phones and spent time with them at home. Greenfield shared her findings with Salon and documented them in the "Social Studies" documentary series on FX. "There are a lot of caring, well-meaning parents who are completely clueless about what's going on," Greenfield said. Greenfield has documented youth culture for decades. She explains why she agrees with the surgeon general's proposal to add an advisory to social media apps because of its negative effects on teens.
