Activist and author of the memoir "Inverse Cowgirl" Alicia Roth Weigel opens up about non-consensually having her testes removed after being born intersex. Roth Weigel shares that her story is not uncommon for intersex children, who face surgeries and medical misinformation from the time they are born, and details the resulting medical complications she lives with today including osteoporosis at the age of 30 and a reliance on hormone supplements. "My body was actually fully functional when I was born," she explained. However, after undergoing a gonadectomy in infancy, Roth Weigel has been dealing with the medical and emotional fallout caused by her doctors since. "Because they were trying to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place, they actually created problems for me," she said.
