Baker Abi Balingit puts a colorful and sweet spin on the Filipino desserts she grew up with in her debut cookbook "Mayumu: Filipino American Desserts Remixed." The creator of The Dusky Kitchen blog tells Salon's Ashlie Stevens about developing her recipes in a tiny Brooklyn kitchen alongside roommates and while maintaining a full-time job. The result is a colorful collection of desserts like Raspberry and Chamoy Pichi-Pichi, Confetti Pianono, Ube Macupuna Molten Lava Cakes and Filipino Flag Red, Blue, Yellow & White cookies that fuse Balingit's Asian and American backgrounds.
