Why are actors concerned about AI? SAG-AFTRA's chief negotiator and national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland explains why the future of artificial intelligence in film and TV is one of the reasons SAG-AFTRA members are on strike against major Hollywood studios. Crabtree-Ireland tells Salon that in the past 18 months generative AI technology has quickly advanced and explains why it throws into question who owns an actor's likeness. "We've had deceased actors brought back to life for movies," he said. "We've had changes made to the way performances are carried out in projects using AI tools. There's a lot going on."
