"Deadpool 2" director David Leitch joined "Salon Talks" to discuss the highly anticipated follow up to the comic book action-comedy "Deadpool," which became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time in 2016. Leitch breaks down the irreverent, cynical character of Deadpool and maintaining a balance of comedic and emotional moments in the film with Salon's Amanda Marcotte.
"When we were dialing in the tone, there's two categories: the emotional sort of arc of the movie/Deadpool's existential crisis, what his real emotional mission is and then the subversive comedy" Leitch told Salon. "We go into these scenes and we would always shoot a comedic out, but you didn't always use the comedic out." Leitch concludes, "So it was a balancing act all the way to the end. Even in editorial you're fine-tuning that."
