Comedian Bo Burnham debuts his first feature film "Eighth Grade." The writer and director gives a realistic take on the super awkward years of middle school. Burnham joined Salon's Mary Elizabeth Williams to discuss his roots as a YouTuber, which go back over a decade, and the importance of depicting such an uncomfortable time in everyone's life on the big screen.
"I don't love the term coming-of-age because it makes it feel like, ok they've now come of age and now they're worthy of being an autonomous person in the world," Burnham explained on SalonTV. "I think they're more adult than we think they are and we're more childlike than we think we are."
